Brayden J. Klein and Samuel N. Vane, president and vice president of UW–Madison’s AePi chapter, were arrested and charged with hazing and disorderly conduct. Police said over 30 men were found covered in food and condiments at the house on Sept. 23.
Police responded to the Alpha Epsilon Pi house on Langdon Street at about 8:20 p.m. after an anonymous tip. They said most of those present were 18-year-old men, many with visible injuries that police described as consistent with physical assault; the group was in a hot, humid basement with the thermostat set at 81°F.
Klein and Vane were booked into Dane County Jail and appeared to have been released on bond. UW–Madison said its Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards is investigating; the chapter has not been recognized on campus since 2015, but remains recognized by its national organization and operates independently. The university said students found in violation may face sanctions, including suspension or expulsion. AEPi International said it is cooperating and will expel any member found responsible for criminal conduct in this case.
