A sea turtle hatchling found at the foot of stairs on Big Pine Key, far from the water, was taken to the Turtle Hospital, treated and released into the wild. It was initially not moving, but the rescuer later spotted movement; how it reached the stairs is unknown.
The Turtle Hospital’s YouTube post suggested a bird may have picked up and dropped the hatchling, but its path there is unknown. Hatchlings typically head from sandy beaches to the ocean and can face dehydration, exhaustion and predators while on land.
