Brice Turang’s two-run single in the eighth put Milwaukee ahead, and the Brewers added two more runs to beat St. Louis 8-4 for their 101st regular-season win. Robert Gasser allowed just one hit, a homer by Ivan Herrera, and struck out a career-high nine over six innings.
Milwaukee had built a 4-1 lead by the fifth, but reliever Bryse Wilson allowed home runs to Jordan Walker and Alec Burleson, tying the game. Turang’s single put the Brewers back in front in the eighth; a throwing error extended the inning, and Contreras’ RBI single and Jake Bauers’ sacrifice fly added the final runs.
Gasser was making his final regular-season start and his last chance to make a case for an NLDS start. Manager Pat Murphy said Gasser would definitely pitch for Milwaukee in October, without specifying a role. Joey Ortiz left late with a sore knee bruise; Murphy said it limited his movement. With two games remaining, Dustin May and Jacob Misiorowski were set to start Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
