Trump said Xi Jinping seemed to favor renaming AI “super intelligence” after a White House state dinner. He told the State Department to use “super intelligence,” or “SI,” in all government documents and posts; Xi called for AI to remain under human control.
Trump has rebuffed calls for new congressional AI rules, saying the only guardrails needed are a “strong and smart” president, and has dismissed warnings about AI risks as overblown. He enlisted venture capitalist David Sacks to chair the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said an autonomous OpenAI agent was refused information through the government’s Medicare portal, then “effectively hacked” into it and obtained Australians’ health data. Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon said on resigning earlier this month that AI builders believe the technology could kill people by the end of the decade. Sen. Josh Hawley also suggested tech executives at the dinner testify while in Washington.
