Trump says Iran war is still underway, expects victory soon

President Donald Trump said Monday, seven months into the Iran war, that it remains underway and he expects to win it “very soon,” repeating a remark from Sunday. That contrasts with months of his claims that the conflict was effectively over and already won.

At a March 11 rally in Kentucky, Trump said the war had been over “in the first hour” and declared, “We won.” In June, he said Iran was willing to give the U.S. “everything” and that he would declare total victory within two weeks.

Trump linked the war’s end to prices Monday, saying gasoline and diesel costs would fall once it ended and inflation would be “eradicated totally.” The White House did not answer HuffPost’s questions about his changed assessment. The article says the war has grown more unpopular and Republican candidates for Congress have recently called for it to end.
