President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s conditional offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart talks; The Wall Street Journal reported he told aides he plans to resume attacks after November’s midterm elections.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Friday that the strait would reopen after seven days and talks would restart if Trump accepted Tehran’s conditions. Iran says those include ending what it calls U.S. aggression, the naval blockade and economic warfare, and releasing Iranian assets.
At the U.N. General Assembly, Trump threatened to “annihilate” Iran if he could not make a peace deal. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian blamed the U.S. and Israel for global instability and said Iran would fight back “until our last breath.”
