Jim Copenhaver, one of two spectators wounded in the 2024 assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday at 76 from complications stemming from his injuries, Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday said. Trump mourned him Thursday.
Copenhaver was shot in the arm and abdomen. His injuries included nerve damage and a transection of his colon, and he underwent multiple surgeries. Months later, he told NBC News he had lost 30 pounds and needed a cane.
Copenhaver and fellow survivor David Dutch, along with their wives, filed separate federal lawsuits against the United States in June. They allege that Secret Service negligence, including inadequate security at the rally, contributed to their injuries.
