Trump keeps Iran strike options open, Waltz says amid post-midterm bombing report

U.N. envoy Mike Waltz said Sunday Trump would leave all options open on Iran, but did not confirm a Wall Street Journal report that he expects to resume bombing after November’s midterms. Trump confirmed rejecting Iran’s offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart nuclear。

Iran’s proposal last week offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart nuclear talks if the U.S. lifted its naval blockade of Iranian ports and waived sanctions on Iranian oil sales, among other conditions.

Waltz also said “politics have nothing to do with this.” He said the U.S. had destroyed Iran’s ability to enrich uranium at several facilities, while Iran had moved and dispersed highly enriched uranium. He argued that a peaceful civilian nuclear program has no need to enrich uranium to weapons-grade or just short of weapons-grade levels.
