US President Donald Trump praised China-US ties as better than ever at a White House state dinner for Xi Jinping on Thursday. Xi said talks had produced common understanding on many issues and urged stable, cooperative relations.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said late Wednesday that the trade truce had been extended for two months after an unscheduled meeting in Washington with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. China had not immediately commented.
Earlier Thursday, the leaders stressed communication and cooperation. Xi invited 100,000 US nationals to study in China, and Beijing is set to send two pandas to a US zoo. Trump said decisions would be made on security, technology and what he calls “super intelligence,” his term for AI.
