Actors Hannah Einbinder and Susan Sarandon were among more than 100 people arrested Thursday in New York during a blockade protesting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s U.N. General Assembly appearance, according to organizer Jewish Voice for Peace.
Netanyahu’s General Assembly speech drew cheers, boos and mass walkouts, the Associated Press reported. He denied allegations that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza, calling them “the biggest lie of the century,” and asserted Israel’s right to wage war against Iran.
Ahead of Netanyahu’s visit, Mayor Zohran Mamdani called him a “war criminal” and said his office had looked into enforcing a 2024 International Criminal Court arrest warrant. Mamdani acknowledged that the city lacked authority to enforce it and called on the federal government to act.
