Donald Trump hosted Xi Jinping at a White House state dinner on the second day of Xi’s three-day Washington visit. Both praised their relationship and pledged continued talks to ensure stability, but experts say discussions have produced little concrete progress so far.
The guest list included US officials and business leaders such as SpaceX’s Elon Musk, Apple’s Tim Cook, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang. Protesters shouted outside the White House gates, and some were arrested.
The leaders were due to have tea at the White House with their wives on Friday, then visit the National Archives. Xi and his wife were scheduled to leave Washington later that day.
