Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin that President Donald Trump had “lied” to and “betrayed” his movement, declaring, “MAGA is dead.” She also said both parties had failed Americans and neither had a credible 2028 candidate.
Greene argued that policies from both parties had led to the $40 trillion national debt and jobs moving overseas, particularly manufacturing work. She said she had initially backed Trump because she believed his promises to put America first and keep the country out of foreign wars.
Greene resigned from Congress in November 2025 and apologized for her role in what she called “toxic politics.” Her public split with Trump centered on her push to release files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Trump and his allies had promised to release the files during the 2024 campaign, but blocked their release after Trump returned to office; Trump called the files a “Democrat hoax” and Greene a “traitor.”
