Longtime Trump adviser Jason Miller has taken a senior White House messaging role as officials manage a temporary press operation. Nearly a month after Karoline Leavitt left as press secretary, the White House has not named a successor.
Former Trump campaign spokesperson Danielle Alvarez has also taken a senior role to help bridge the transition. A person describing internal dynamics said neither she nor Miller intends to host press briefings.
Trump named Miller White House communications director after his 2016 campaign win, but Miller said he would not take the post after allegations surfaced of an extramarital affair with a Trump campaign staffer. He later confirmed he had fathered a son with the staffer and remained with his wife. Miller later served as a senior adviser to Trump's 2020 re-election campaign; after Trump lost, he moved into lobbying and registered as a foreign agent.
