As of early this week, the Trump administration had obligated $307 million of the $400 million Congress approved for military aid to Ukraine and plans to contract the remaining $93 million by Sept. 30, according to three sources, to keep the balance from expiring.
The remaining $93 million need not be spent by Sept. 30, but must be formally placed under contract by then or it will expire. Initial deliveries began this month with offensive weapons and equipment such as spare parts for armored vehicles; the rest is expected before October 2029, the sources said.
One source said the package does not include Patriot missiles. Democrats and some of President Donald Trump’s fellow Republicans have criticized the Pentagon for sitting on the aid; the Pentagon declined to comment.
