In a new Good Morning America interview, Tom Cruise recalled working as a superintendent’s assistant at an Upper West Side apartment building in Manhattan before his acting career took off. He shoveled ice, took out garbage and handled tenants’ repair requests.
A 2023 Fox Business report identified the five-story property as 50 West 86th Street and described Cruise as its superintendent; Cruise’s new recollection describes him as the superintendent’s assistant. The report said he lived and worked there before landing a role in Taps (1981).
Cruise shared the story while promoting Digger, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. The film begins its international theatrical rollout Sept. 30 and opens in North American theaters and IMAX Oct. 2.
