Star Jones told Joy Behar on the Behind the Table podcast that she announced her departure from The View on June 27, 2006, two days before the June 29 date she had agreed on privately with Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie.
Reports said The View told Jones in April 2006 that her contract would not be renewed. CBS News reported that Walters felt “betrayed” and was surprised by Jones’ June 27 announcement.
Jones also described a 2007 on-air clash between Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Rosie O’Donnell, shown in split screen, as a turning point toward more contentious exchanges on the show. She said the split screen made the disagreements feel like a news program; Behar agreed it was a tipping point.
