Oni Press's “Archie in Hell” turns a food drive for Riverdale's poor into a cult's scheme to use Archie Andrews as a gateway for an eldritch god. Patrick Horvath writes the horror comic, illustrated by Tyler Crook; its first issue goes on sale Nov. 4.
Horvath said the main editorial feedback concerned keeping Archie, Jughead and Betty true to their established personalities. He said he had not encountered pushback on the story's direction.
Oni president and publisher Hunter Gorinson pitched the project as “Quantum Leap” by way of “The Dark Tower.” Horvath cited “Afterlife with Archie” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” as inspirations; Sabrina Spellman appears in the series.
