Nicole Presland and brothers Dan and Ben Thompson received a police award after holding onto a vulnerable woman to stop her from falling from a bridge over the A12 near Colchester. Presland had stopped after seeing her in the road one night in January.
Presland called 999 after spotting the woman in Braiswick. The brothers were returning from a show at Colchester’s Mercury Theatre when they saw Presland and the woman on the bridge. Officers closed the A12 below them.
Essex Police Chief Constable Rachel Nolan praised the trio’s selflessness and courage, saying they comforted the woman and held on until emergency services arrived. She said many other people drove past the woman that night.
