Thousands traveled from Yad Mordechai toward Gaza's northern border on Sunday, calling for Jewish settlement. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said he hoped to become defense minister, return to Nisanit and settle all of Gaza, and called for emigration to be encouraged.
The Nahala movement and other right-wing organizations led the march. Organizers argued that only civilian presence and holding territory could provide a long-term security resolution. Nahala chairman Tzvi Elimelech Sherbaf also opposed the entry of an international force, saying it endangered residents of southern Israel.
Ben-Gvir had recently demanded the defense minister post as a condition for joining a right-wing coalition after the Knesset elections scheduled for Oct. 27.
