Tapper asks Waltz to urge Trump to let CNN back in press pool

The Wrap

Jake Tapper asked U.N. Ambassador Mike Waltz on CNN Sunday to urge President Trump to restore CNN to the White House press pool. CNN had been barred from flying on Air Force One Saturday; no replacement outlet was named, leaving the president without press-pool coverage that day.

A week earlier, the administration had blocked CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House press pool and seized their access cards. A federal judge ordered the administration to reinstate their access days later. The three outlets have joined in suing Trump, alleging the ban violated their First Amendment rights.

Waltz defended the decision by citing Trump’s view that CNN did not provide “fair and objective reporting,” and said Trump was frustrated with media bias. Tapper replied that every president he had covered had been frustrated with the press.
