Texas Tech linebacker Austin Romaine intercepted passes from Sam Houston quarterbacks Landyn Locke and Brett Holloway, returning each for a touchdown on consecutive defensive plays. The returns covered 15 and 31 yards, giving Texas Tech a 21-0 lead.
Sam Houston cut the deficit to seven by halftime, but Texas Tech extended its lead in the second half.
