Texas executed Ker'sean Olajuwa Ramey, 41, by lethal injection Wednesday, Sept. 23, after his conviction for the 2005 triple murder in Edna. He was the second of two defendants convicted in the case to be executed; it was Texas' sixth execution of 2026.
Ramey was sentenced to death in January 2007. Court records say he and LeJames Norman broke into Sam Roberts' Edna home, believing Roberts had at least a kilogram of cocaine they planned to steal. They shot and killed Roberts, 24, Celso Lopez, 38, and Tiffani Peacock, 18, then fled. Norman, who testified against Ramey, was executed Sept. 16.
The U.S. Supreme Court denied Ramey's final request for a stay and petition for review on Wednesday. His appeals alleging racial discrimination in jury selection and ineffective assistance of counsel were rejected. After his execution, the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty said his trial involved constitutional violations, including the systematic exclusion of all potential Black jurors, false testimony by the state and an attorney who failed to investigate or call witnesses to challenge the prosecution's case.
