James Farthing, winner of Kentucky’s $167.3 million Powerball jackpot in 2025, was arrested Sept. 20, 2026, at a Georgetown Walmart and reportedly charged with public intoxication. It was his fifth arrest since the win; he is being held at Scott County Detention Center.
At about 4:04 a.m., authorities reportedly found Farthing asleep in a parked vehicle with its engine running. They described him as impaired, citing bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and difficulty balancing, and reportedly smelled alcohol and marijuana. Farthing said a woman had driven him to the lot and left him; WHAS11 reported that CCTV showed his Mustang arrive but no one exit before authorities arrived.
Farthing’s first arrest came days after his April 2025 win, following a resort dispute in Florida; he faced battery and resisting-arrest charges and was accused of kicking an officer. In February 2026, he was charged with intimidating a participant in a legal process. A March arrest brought second-degree burglary and marijuana-possession charges after he was accused of entering a Lexington home and taking about $12,000. His July arrest followed an alleged domestic-violence incident; listed charges included first-degree strangulation, domestic-violence-related offenses and fourth-degree assault involving minor injury.
