Kristoffer Von Hassel was arrested Tuesday in Imperial Beach and charged with vandalism and damage to property motivated by civil rights violations. The sheriff's office said antisemitic graffiti was found at two homes, with more later appearing at one.
Deputies first investigated graffiti at two homes on Sept. 13 and returned to one Saturday after more appeared. Officers found additional vandalism in the alley behind that home; detectives said surveillance video helped identify a suspect. Von Hassel was arrested there around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Von Hassel's parents denied wrongdoing in an interview with ABC10 News and said their family does not hold hateful beliefs. Sandy Brillhart, whose home was among those vandalized, told the network she had trouble sleeping and worried someone was lurking whenever she heard a noise.
