Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons apologized after being penalized for a second-quarter celebration that appeared to mimic using the restroom on a Tennessee opponent. He had five sacks in the Longhorns’ 20-17 win, which improved them to 4-0.
The unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty gave Tennessee a first down. Simmons also recorded eight tackles, seven solo, four tackles for loss and a forced fumble; his five sacks brought his season total to seven.
Six of Texas’ eight remaining games were against teams ranked in the polls at the time, with Oklahoma next on the schedule.
