Teacher Hannah Jorgensen and 10-year-old student Ahmed Osman died during a field trip to Lake MacBride State Park, Iowa, on Sept. 22. Osman’s body was recovered from Coralville Reservoir the next morning; the district will offer counseling and support.
The district said the outing was its School of the Wild field trip for Borlaug Elementary fifth graders at MacBride Nature Recreation Area. The sheriff’s office said Jorgensen was recovered from the reservoir at about 12:43 p.m. on Sept. 22 and pronounced dead at the scene; search efforts for Osman were paused overnight and resumed the next morning.
