Cycling advocates marked an unauthorized bike lane with tape at Tremont and Parker streets in Boston, where transportation planner Louisa Gag was killed by a truck. The markings seek safer streets; Mayor Wu says the city will assess corridor safety and design.
Mayor Wu said in a letter after the crash that a comprehensive safety and urban-design evaluation of the Tremont Street corridor would be conducted in close coordination with the ongoing law-enforcement investigation, to identify important fixes.
City Councilor Erin Murphy opposed the unauthorized markings, saying residents cannot alter traffic patterns without approval and warning that tape resembling permanent infrastructure could cause confusion. She filed an emergency hearing order over the lanes and said changes should go through engineering review and official channels.
