Taylor Swift released The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, a four-song EP led by “Patient Zero,” on Friday. Its music video is set to premiere at tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards, where Swift will receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors.
The four tracks are “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.” Swift said she and collaborators Max and Shellback wrote additional songs during a trip to Sweden to celebrate the album’s success, describing them as born from gratitude for fans’ response.
Swift’s video teaser featured Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson. Fans interpreted zeros in her posts and cryptic words in a Sept. 14 Emmys sketch as possible clues to a rerecording of her self-titled debut; some also speculated about Reputation (Taylor’s Version). How The Encore and “Patient Zero” relate to a possible debut rerelease remains unclear.
