Removal has begun on the 300m covered walkway at Uig ferry terminal on Skye, which was significantly damaged by Storm Ashley during construction in October 2024 and has never been used by the public. The work could take three weeks; no replacement is planned at present.
Highland Independent councillor Christine Gillies said the walkway could not be salvaged. Highland Council said it had agreed a settlement for recovery of the construction cost.
Gillies said the site would be left in a safe state and people could access the ferry safely. The council said traffic management would be in place to avoid disruption to ferry operations during the work.
