With Jaxson Dart out for the rest of the regular season, the Giants will start Jameis Winston for now. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith urged New York to pursue Browns backup Shedeur Sanders, although the report says Cleveland is unlikely to trade him.
Coach John Harbaugh confirmed Wednesday that Dart has damage to his MCL, PCL and meniscus; ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the meniscus is the main issue. Sanders is behind current starter Deshaun Watson, but the report says Cleveland sees Sanders as part of its future and will likely need him this season.
The Giants are likely to consider other options, including Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco. Winston is set to start Sunday against the Tennessee Titans after completing 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and an interception against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday. Kickoff is 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
