NASA is inviting states to compete to host the new U.S. Space Academy, with proposals due by 6 p.m. EDT Oct. 26. Each state may submit one bid, addressing site readiness, environmental and regulatory factors, and proximity and supporting ecosystems.
A presidential commission established by Trump's directive and chaired by NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman has been tasked with breaking ground by 2027, temporarily hosting the first 300 students in 2028 and opening a permanent location by 2031.
At its Sept. 9 meeting, the commission discussed the academy's governance, curriculum, service commitments, partnerships and implementation.
