President Donald Trump welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping to the White House Thursday for a state dinner. CBS News reported the two held private talks on trade, AI and Taiwan; the visit followed Wednesday’s agreement to extend the U.S.-China trade truce.
The formal welcome included military honors, a troop review and a flyover featuring a B-2 bomber and four F-22 Raptors. Dinner guests included Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
Washington and Beijing remain in negotiations over trade, critical minerals and rare earths, with disagreements over Taiwan and advanced AI development and exports. The White House said Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were scheduled to return Friday for tea with Trump and first lady Melania Trump, then visit the National Archives to view documents on U.S.-China relations.
