St Helier Constable Inna Gardiner seeks public views on moving King Street’s apple crusher to Howard Davis Park as part of a £2.5m revamp. She opposes the move; Infrastructure Minister Jonathan Renouf says no final decision has been made and he is open to ideas.
The granite crusher was installed in 1978 to commemorate Jersey’s cider-making heritage, when King and Queen streets were pedestrianised. Gardiner called it a much-loved, colourful feature and said other places needed improvements.
Renouf said the approved design assumes the crusher’s removal, and plans showing this had been publicly available and displayed at an exhibition more than a year ago. He said the scheme aims to enhance the area around Broad Street while respecting its history and character.
