A 5,000-line spreadsheet ShinyHunters says it stole from the FBI lists employees’ personal data and sensitive assignments, Reuters found. The FBI says it is investigating a claim that its FBIJobs.gov portal was compromised; the cause remains undetermined.
The spreadsheet lists names, addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, Social Security numbers and emergency contacts. It names staffers in China-, Russia-, Iran- and Hezbollah-related roles, as well as interception, surveillance and human-intelligence work. Former FBI counterintelligence operative Eric O’Neill called the data “a foreign intelligence service goldmine.”
ShinyHunters said the spreadsheet was a small part of its claimed 2–3-terabyte trove and that it was holding the data hostage until the FBI rescinded a May statement about the group. It said it was trying to keep the personnel information from circulating widely. Reuters could not authenticate the full file or verify all assignments as current; it cross-checked personal details for more than 22 people against credit records and earlier data leaks, and matched job details or titles for eight people against court filings, news reports and public profiles or posts.
