The Cubs lost 8-2 to the Marlins in 12 innings Tuesday after Caleb Thielbar and Edward Cabrera allowed six runs in the 12th. Chicago’s bottom six hitters went 2-for-30 with one RBI, while Pete Crow-Armstrong stole his 39th base.
Shota Imanaga gave up one run on four hits, issued no walks and struck out seven over five innings. After Aaron Civale allowed a solo homer to Kyle Stowers, Ryan Rolison, Daniel Palencia and Ryan Zeferjahn combined for 5.1 scoreless innings. Crow-Armstrong, Seiya Suzuki and Michael Busch went 5-for-14 with four walks, two runs and two doubles.
The loss delayed the Cubs’ chance to clinch a second consecutive postseason berth. An MLB.com recap said Chicago was on the cusp of clinching and would have to wait at least one more night.
