In an Ontario court, Aimee Louise Elif Walton's sister said the 21-year-old, who bought poison from Kenneth Law, died in a Slough hotel on Oct. 14, 2022, with a stranger she met online. He had flown from the US and stayed with Walton for 11 days, her sister said.
Walton's sister said Walton met the man on an internet forum where users discussed ending their lives, correcting earlier reports that she had been found by a friend. Walton bought poison from Law for a total of $269 (£203) across several purchases between June and September 2022. Her sister said Walton had struggled with her mental health since the Covid pandemic, leading her to postpone her studies. Walton's sister has previously called for a statutory public inquiry into the UK's response.
Law pleaded guilty to 14 counts of aiding suicide involving Canadian victims but has not been formally charged over British deaths. The Canadian case includes 79 UK victims known to have died as a direct result of buying his poison. The National Crime Agency says 330 packages reached 286 UK recipients. Authorities told families he would not face UK proceedings, since extradition could be refused under double-jeopardy rules if he had already been convicted of similar offences abroad. A sentence exceeding 14 years is understood to be expected because of the number of victims and nature of the offences.
