Sid Jawahar was sentenced Sept. 15 to 11 years in prison for a Ponzi scheme that took more than $35 million from investors; a judge also ordered $31.35 million in restitution. Prosecutors named Travis Kelce among 64 victims, but Kelce’s losses are unknown.
Jawahar pleaded guilty to three wire-fraud counts in January. An indictment said he invested about $10 million of the money raised and used the rest to repay earlier investors and pay for private-plane flights, luxury hotels and expensive restaurant outings. In June 2022, Texas regulators revoked Swiftarc Capital’s authority to conduct investment activity and warned Jawahar to stop engaging in fraud; prosecutors said he continued taking money until his early-2024 arrest.
In a separate 2024 civil suit, Detroit Pistons guard Gary Harris Jr. and former NFL player Ross Travis allege Jawahar defrauded them. The complaint says Harris invested $300,000 and recovered $125,000, while Travis invested $12,000 and received no return. Prosecutors obtained a recorded jail call in which Jawahar discussed a $10,000 agreement with political consultant Jeff Roe to seek favorable media coverage and letters of support; Jawahar later swore he never paid Roe.
