Shannon Dillon, 42, was arrested near a Broward sheriff’s cruiser found in St. Lucie County, nearly 100 miles north of its Fort Lauderdale headquarters, less than an hour after it disappeared on Sept. 22. She wore a sheriff’s vest and said she drove there in it.
St. Lucie County charges include unlawful possession of identification, drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and resisting without violence. Her total bond was $107,500; the resisting charge was released on her own recognizance. A duty bag held two boxes of 5.56 ammunition and another person’s identification documents, while a rifle remained in the cruiser. A glass pipe with burnt white residue was found in her coat; a field test returned positive for cocaine.
Rod Skirvin, president of the Broward County Police Benevolent Association, said the Charger reached about 100 mph; no crash or injury was reported. The Broward Sheriff’s Office opened an Internal Affairs investigation into how the cruiser left headquarters. Dillon pleaded no contest to vehicle theft and leaving the scene of a property-damage crash in 2024; after a probation violation, she was adjudicated guilty of felony motor-vehicle theft and sentenced to 90 days in county jail, with credit for 63 days served.
