Police arrested several men on suspicion of explosives-law offences in Whelford, near RAF Fairford, and declared a major incident. Properties are being evacuated while Army disposal specialists examine vehicles; police said they believe the incident is contained.
Residents were evacuated to a nearby recreation center, and a cordon was put in place.
Whelford is about two miles from RAF Fairford, which hosts the U.S. Air Force. The base has served since February as a key hub for U.S. operations against Iran, including for B-1 Lancer and B-52 Stratofortress bombers.
