Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki said “Savor” ahead of Chicago’s final regular-season home game, echoing Ian Happ’s message as the longtime Cub also nears free agency. Suzuki’s five-year, $85 million contract is nearing its end.
Happ called the day “the last controllable day here,” said he wanted to savor it and recalled 10 years of memories. The 2015 first-round pick was also headed toward free agency.
Chicago had clinched a playoff berth. MLB Trade Rumors’ Leo Morgenstern reported Suzuki was less than two months from free agency and coming off his best MLB season; Morgenstern wrote that Suzuki would command a higher salary than anticipated five years earlier.
