Seahawks QB Sam Darnold practices fully, eyes a Sunday return

SB Nation

Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold practiced fully Thursday after missing one game with a glute injury and said he is taking it day by day while striving to play Sunday. Safety Julian Love missed practice with a calf injury, putting his status in question.

Darnold injured his glute five plays into the season opener against New England. The initial timeline ranged from a couple of weeks to more than a month, but updates before this week had been increasingly positive. In his absence, Drew Lock threw three touchdown passes to Jaxon Smith-Njigba in Seattle’s 31-7 win over Arizona, with no turnovers and one sack.

Love had practiced Wednesday before missing Thursday with the calf issue. Ty Okada also did not practice Thursday because of a hamstring injury. Rodney Thomas II and A.J. Finley are available backups and could be pressed into starting roles; Maxen Hook and D’Anthony Bell are available from the practice/ready squad. Brandon Pili and Jadarian Price were also listed as question marks for Sunday.
