On Samsung Galaxy phones, a broken triangle with up/down arrows means Data Saver is on, limiting apps’ background internet access. An exclamation-mark triangle signals an error; a plain triangle indicates cellular roaming. Icons can vary by model or carrier.
Data Saver is usually off by default and can be toggled at Settings > Connections > Data usage. It allows the currently open app to access the internet but blocks background activity such as updates, syncing, fetching new content and notifications. Users can allow selected apps to keep working through “Allowed to use data while Data Saver is on.” The mode helps manage mobile data and may also conserve battery, but offers little benefit when mostly on Wi-Fi.
The solid dark triangle with an exclamation mark is an error warning that may reflect a charging fault or a software glitch.
