After three straight season-opening losses, Rutgers beat Howard 58-7 on Friday, scoring on 10 of 12 possessions and totaling 534 yards. Dylan Lonergan avoided turnovers, Bradlee Jones had two interceptions, and coach Greg Schiano reached his 100th career win.
Lonergan completed 12 of 17 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns. Antwan Raymond added three rushing scores and 140 total yards, while KJ Duff caught five passes for 131 yards and set a school record with a touchdown in five consecutive games. Dane Pizarro made three field goals, including a 47-yarder, and all seven extra points.
Rutgers recorded multiple sacks, while Howard's only points came on running back Eden James's 75-yard touchdown run. The Scarlet Knights host No. 5 Indiana next week for their homecoming and blackout game.
