Texas Tech linebacker Austin Romaine returned interceptions on consecutive defensive plays for touchdowns in a 49-13 win over Sam Houston Saturday. He picked off Brett Holloway, then Landyn Locke on the Bearkats' next possession, returning the picks 15 and 31 yards.
Sam Houston trailed 21-0 early in the second quarter but cut Texas Tech's lead to 21-14 before halftime after Red Raiders quarterback Will Hammond threw interceptions on consecutive possessions. Texas Tech scored four touchdowns in the second half, including a 21-yard pass and a 23-yard run by Hammond, a 13-yard rush by Cameron Dickey and a 27-yard pass from backup Thomas Castellanos.
Hammond finished 17-of-29 for 224 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Dickey had 91 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, while Romaine recorded eight tackles. Texas Tech improved to 4-0 and next visits Colorado (2-2) before a bye week.
