Texas edged No. 14 Tennessee 20-17 in Knoxville as safety Jelani McDonald broke up Faizon Brandon’s last-second Hail Mary. Colin Simmons set a school record with five sacks, and Texas recorded 10 overall; Tennessee had pulled within three on a late 30-yard touchdown pass.
Tennessee entered averaging 298.7 rushing yards per game but managed 70 on 1.6 yards per carry against Texas. Qua Moss’ third-quarter punt-return touchdown began the Volunteers’ comeback, and they recovered an onside kick with 1:22 remaining.
Arch Manning completed 14 of 19 passes for 201 yards and threw one interception; Tennessee sacked him six times. Raleek Brown scored Texas’ fourth-quarter touchdown on an eight-play, 60-yard drive with 5:41 left. Texas committed 11 penalties for 115 yards and rushed for 61 yards on 1.7 yards per carry.
