Roma Women open their Serie A season away to Sassuolo on Sunday, Sept. 27, beginning their Scudetto defense as they seek a fourth league title in five years. It is their third meeting with Sassuolo in a month; kickoff is set for 15:00 CET at Stadio Enzo Ricci.
In the Serie A Women’s Cup, Sassuolo beat Roma 1-0 in the group stage in late August, but Roma won their semifinal rematch 7-1, with Martina Piemonte scoring a hat trick. Roma’s most recent match was a 0-0 Champions League draw with OH Leuven; Marta Pandini hit the post with a late penalty.
Roma have lost only one of their 18 previous Serie A meetings with Sassuolo, in their first encounter in 2018-19. Piemonte was on the bench against Leuven after taking a blow to the ribs in the Juventus game, and Roma were hoping for positive news on her availability for Sunday.
