Donna Ganger called for “accountability and change” at a Capitol Hill forum Tuesday, Sept. 22, after her daughter Renee Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Jan. 7. Ganger said she voted for Trump, believing agents would protect citizens.
Good, 37, a U.S. citizen and mother of three, was behind the wheel of her Honda Pilot during Operation Metro Surge when ICE agent Jonathan Ross fatally shot her. Her partner said they had dropped their 6-year-old child at school and stopped to observe law enforcement activity. Federal officials alleged Good tried to run over an officer; local officials, witnesses and video footage dispute that account.
Donna’s son Brent Ganger said no meaningful changes had followed Renee’s death and urged lawmakers to treat deaths of Americans at the hands of government agents as a nonpartisan issue. Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Robert Garcia led the forum and said they had invited Republican colleagues, none of whom attended.
