Lakers coach JJ Redick said Sandro Mamukelashvili will add lineup flexibility after signing a four-year, $52 million deal. The 6-foot-9 player can play small forward, power forward or center; he is likely to back up Walker Kessler and could also play beside him.
In his breakout season with Toronto, Mamukelashvili averaged 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists over 80 games, shooting 52.3% from the field and 38.9% from 3-point range.
Redick also described Kessler as a defensive anchor for Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, citing his rim protection and rebounding. He said the Lakers want Kessler near the basket.
