Brighton came close to equalising in the 35th minute, when Emily Murphy headed against the crossbar and Kiko Seike volleyed the rebound wide. London City also hit the bar through Freya Godfrey's header in the 55th minute. Brighton sit 10th with two points and remain without a WSL win.
Putellas, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner, joined London City on a free transfer this summer after 14 years at Barcelona, where she won 38 trophies, including 10 league titles. She has started every London City match this season and was replaced in the 73rd minute.
