Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, two smartphone chips it is pitching for on-device AI and AI agents. The chips are intended for premium Android phones, where downloaded models can run on the device rather than relying on cloud services.
Yahoo Finance technology editor Dan Howley described local processing as a way to keep information between the user and device and avoid needing a cloud provider. He also said fast CPUs matter because AI agents need processing power to work without long waits.
